Clinical hypnotherapy is the use of carefully managed deep relaxation, in a safe environment, to rapidly achieve positive change, resolve your problem or achieve your personal goal. See about hypnotherapy for more information about the techniques involved.
I am now conducting online hypnotherapy as well as Covid-compliant face-to-face sessions
There is no age restriction on who can benefit from clinical hypnotherapy. I have successfully treated clients as young as 7 and as old as 95. Children are particularly receptive to hypnotherapy, for example for thumb-sucking and building confidence. Older clients have benefitted from chronic pain relief, prostate trouble and sleep disorders.
Anxiety disorders and disturbed sleep can be exhausting and debilitating. Many people suffer irrational fear that is all too real in its effect. Hypnotherapy is very effective in dealing with these anxious episodes and negative thought patterns.
I can also teach you self-hypnosis so that you can apply these relaxation techniques yourself at the time and place you need them most.
Habits are part of our personality. Sometimes though they are unwanted, learned behaviours that can be socially awkward, embarrassing or even harm your health. Thumb sucking, nail biting, trichotilimania (hair pulling) are often carried out unconsciously. Habits are often triggered by specific events, for example in meetings or on the phone or when stressed. Given that habits are learned responses we can unlearn them through hypnotherapy. Alcohol and drug dependency also respond well.
Fear of flying, scans, needles, medical procedures, lifts, insects, animals and heights are just some of the phobias and fears that hypnotherapy can alleviate.
Whether founded on a real negative past experience, or a more irrational fear, phobias can negatively affect your life and hinder what you might otherwise enjoy. You may (knowingly or unknowingly) be taking elaborate 'avoidance' measures. Hypnotherapy techniques are particularly effective in helping you live your life without your phobia.
From a client with a phobia of medical scans: "Using the techniques that Jenni taught me, I was able to manage a one hour MRI scan. This would have been impossible without Jenni's reassuring hypnotherapy".
Stopping smoking is tough. Most of the vaping you do or cigarettes you smoke are probably because you 'always have one when on the phone / on leaving the building / watching TV' (add your own trigger). The good news is that clinical hypnotherapy has a very high success rate in helping smokers quit, because learned behaviours can be unlearned.
Irrespective of how much you smoke or how many times you have tried to stop smoking, if you really want to stop, clinical hypnotherapy can help. Once you have made the decision to stop, you want to do it quickly. With clinical hypnotherapy, the usual 'cold-turkey' side-effects of cravings, weight-gain or fear of relapse may be avoided, and long-term success much more likely.
Many people 'live with' episodes of chronic or acute pain. With hypnotherapy I can help you learn to control, reduce and in some cases, eliminate your pain (eg IBS). Hypnotherapy can also be used during surgical operations as an alternative to normal analgesia or to help reduce the amount of anaesthetic needed, for example at the dentist.
A recent client who suffered from a painful jaw commented "I would wholeheartedly recommend Jenni. She was very understanding and caring. The techniques given were effective, aided relaxation and gave me a more positive outlook".
Diets, meal replacements or more invasive physical interventions, may help you lose weight, but are not a long-term solution . Despite making those promises to yourself to change what you eat, you may lack the willpower to keep to your plan. Hypnotherapy can help you make the lifestyle changes that are necessary to lose, gain or otherwise manage your weight in a safe, long-term way. Hypnotherapy helps your subconscious mind make the right choices about your eating patterns, what and how much you eat.
IBS is a common problem that responds very well to hypnotherapy. NHS guidelines now include hypnotherapy as a proven treatment. A BBC article, quoting the medical journal 'Frontline Gastroenterology', reported that 9 out of 10 patients undergoing clinical hypnotherapy had improved symptoms. Cramps, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, irregular movements and 'urgency' are all treatable.
Performance in competitive sports, business negotiations, education and the creative arts, can all be negatively impacted by excessive pressure and anxiety. A third of all people feel excessive anxiety*, procrastinate, or perform sub-optimally when faced with public speaking or entering into negotiations. Visualising your successful outcome will enable you to achieve it, at the time you need it.

Natural childbirth using hypnotherapy is an effective alternative to anaesthetic drugs such as epidural injections. Using the easibirthing® technique, I will train you in self-hypnosis, relaxation and breathing methods. Your partner is normally involved and you will enter labour feeling calm and confident in a state of deep relaxation, whilst maintaining perception and control.
The easibirthing® method enables you to have the active birth you want. So whether you are planning a home birth or in hospital, this training is designed to suit you and your partner.

Once in a deeply relaxed state, the delicate balance of being aware but open to suggestion is used to provide the unconscious mind with alternatives. This 'dissociation' can be used in many ways to address problems (anxiety, phobias), stop a behaviour (smoking, unwanted habits) or make improvements (sporting, technical). In addition I have successfully treated clients for the reduction of pain both before and after surgical procedures.
Hypnosis is centuries old and in recent years experienced en-masse as stage or TV entertainment. However, clinical hypnotherapy is the use of a carefully managed hypnotic state, in which you are completely aware and have control at all times. You are in a safe environment where you can rapidly achieve positive change, resolve a problem or achieve a personal goal.
Recent advances in MRI scanning help us understand the remarkable physiological changes that hypnotherapy can achieve. Take a look at the video clip below.

I practiced for over 30 years as a dentist and developed an interest in hypnosis to provide the technique for dental patients in my north London practice. Anxious and phobic patients were delighted that they were able to have treatment without resorting to sedation.
Having found that hypnotherapy was so helpful for anxious dental patients, I retrained at the London School for Clinical Hypnotherapy (LCCH). I qualified with a Medical Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and participate regularly in LCCH training courses and continuous professional development.
I love helping individuals with a variety of hypnotherapy needs in my therapy room in North West London. Face-to-face sessions are Covid-19 compliant. If you prefer, I can also provide online hypnotherapy.
Most clients say they not only benefit from hypnotherapy for their original problem but also enjoy the rare experience of being able to relax and make other positive changes to their lives. I train all my clients in self-hypnosis so that they are able to continue to improve themselves.
I volunteer as a clinical hypnotherapist at the North London Hospice, helping individuals with anxiety and pain management.
As a clinical professional, you can be assured that I treat all sessions in the strictest confidence,. You will never be asked to do anything you do not want to do, and that you will be in control at all times.
My practice is located in Mill Hill, London NW7
